    Fire index

    Definition of fire rating

The fire rating describes how easily a material ignites, how much smoke it produces and how strongly it contributes to the spread of fire.

It is determined through testing and is important for building safety.

    Fire rating table

Fire rating 5.3 stands for flame-retardant building materials with low smoke formation. The Longlife components from plica are unique on the Swiss market, meet the requirements of the VKF and are suitable for fire-protection-relevant electrical installations.

    Legal regulations

Fire rating scale for corrugated conduits

The NIN 7.12.5.2.1.2 standard defines requirements for safe electrical installations. Choosing materials with a suitable fire rating is essential.

    Important points:

    • Only materials with a suitable fire rating may be used.
    • Easily flammable materials with heavy smoke formation are prohibited in certain areas.

    NIN 7.12.5.2.1.2 standard

The PV DC main cable must be installed as fixed wiring. Insulation materials that meet increased insulation requirements must be used, for example halogen-free insulation materials.

PVC insulation is not suitable for this purpose. If the possible short-circuit current does not exceed the operating current, or only exceeds it insignificantly, no additional measures are required for short-circuit protection.

    Important for combustible building components:

If such cables run over combustible building components (surface-mounted) or are installed inside combustible building components (flush-mounted), they must be installed in flame-retardant conduits or ducts (RF2/BKZ 5.2) or in non-combustible conduits or ducts (RF1/BKZ 6q, BKZ 6). Alternatively, cables with a metallic sheath or concentric conductor must be used. PVC insulation is not suitable.

The solution: certified plica plastic conduits

Tested fire rating for plica plastic conduits
    TÜV-tested plica plastic conduits

plica plastic conduits are TÜV-tested and certified. They meet the BKZ 5.3 fire rating and are listed by the VKF .

This makes them particularly suitable for fire-protection-relevant electrical installations and for use in photovoltaic systems.
